Summary
N8173Y is a rare, PA-30B "C/R" platform that has been modified with a right side counter-rotating engine to improve safety. The C/R engines lower the the airplane's Vmc from 90 MPH to 80 MPH and eliminate the critical (left) engine. While the aircraft needs TLC in the form of an updated panel and interior, it recently underwent an extensive, and expensive, annual inspection with excellent compressions. This airplane, in its current form could serve as a great time-builder, or as a solid foundation for future avionics or cosmetic upgrades.
